Data Centres
Solar Development for Data Centre Infrastructure
Data centres operate some of the most energy-intensive infrastructure in modern industry. With growing demand for digital capacity and increasing pressure to reduce carbon intensity, operators are exploring on-site renewable generation as part of long-term energy strategies.
Shannon Energy supports data centre operators in evaluating and delivering solar projects that align with power demand, grid constraints, and infrastructure planning.

Industry Context
Energy Realities in Data Centre Operations
Data centres are operating under increasing pressure to demonstrate renewable energy sourcing as part of planning and regulatory requirements. While solar is rarely the primary energy solution at this scale, it plays a critical role in supporting compliance targets, strengthening ESG positioning, and enabling projects to move forward. The challenge lies in integrating these systems effectively within complex, high-demand environments.
Power Density
Data centre facilities operate with exceptionally high electricity demand driven by server infrastructure and cooling systems.
Grid Constraints
Many facilities face grid capacity limitations, while also needing to demonstrate increased use of renewable energy to meet planning and regulatory requirements.
Infrastructure Integration
Solar systems must be integrated alongside complex electrical infrastructure, ensuring they support compliance and ESG objectives without impacting performance or uptime.

Our Approach
How Shannon Energy Supports Data Centre Operators
Shannon Energy applies a feasibility-first approach when evaluating solar opportunities in high-demand digital infrastructure environments. Through structured analysis of site potential, infrastructure capacity, and financial outcomes, we help operators understand what scale of solar is realistically achievable.
The Energy Strategy & Solar Readiness Study provides internal teams with a clear decision framework, supporting alignment between engineering, finance, and sustainability stakeholders before procurement begins.

Pure DC Amsterdam Solar Feasibility & Design Study
Shannon Energy was engaged by Pure Data Centres to assess the feasibility of on-site solar generation at its Amsterdam facility as part of its wider sustainability and ESG commitments. The project formed part of Pure DC’s “Healthier Earth Programme”, focused on reducing carbon emissions across critical digital infrastructure. The assignment included evaluating solar suitability across multiple rooftops, developing a proposed solar solution, and assessing the commercial and environmental benefits of implementation.

Portugal Utility-Scale Advisory Projects
Shannon Energy is acting as Technical Advisor and Project Originator on a number of utility-scale solar developments in Portugal, supporting renewable energy investment activity through relationships with international energy funds and development partners. This work reflects Shannon Energy’s broader experience across large-scale renewable energy strategy, project development, and commercial advisory services beyond the Irish market.
