Denis Mahony

Commercial Solar for High-Demand Retail Operations

As energy costs continued to rise across Ireland, Denis Mahony Toyota sought a practical way to reduce operational electricity costs while strengthening the sustainability performance of its dealership operations in Dublin. With significant daytime electricity demand across showroom, workshop, servicing, and operational facilities, the business was well positioned to benefit from on-site renewable energy generation. The objective was to implement a solar solution capable of delivering immediate commercial savings while supporting longer-term environmental goals. Shannon Energy was engaged to design and deliver a tailored rooftop solar PV system across the Denis Mahony Toyota M50 and Kilbarrack sites.

The Challenge

Automotive dealership and servicing facilities operate with a consistent daytime energy profile driven by lighting, workshop equipment, servicing operations, office functions, and customer-facing environments.

For Denis Mahony Toyota, the challenge was to maximise the use of available roof space across multiple building types while ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations during installation.

The project also needed to deliver a strong financial return within a commercially realistic timeframe, while aligning with broader sustainability objectives and taking advantage of available government support mechanisms.

Our Approach

Shannon Energy developed a tailored rooftop solar solution designed specifically around the operational profile of the two Dublin sites.

The installation combined both flat and trapezoidal roof systems, requiring careful engineering and mounting design to ensure optimal performance across varying roof structures. Using a Renusol mounting system alongside JA Solar 500W PV panels and Solax inverter technology, the system was designed to maximise generation while integrating seamlessly into the existing buildings.

The project was delivered with support from the SEAI grant scheme, helping to improve the overall project economics and accelerate return on investment.
